Beauty Tip: Long-Lasting Red Lips

When I wear red lips I often get asked how I wear them without my lipcolor bleeding, fading, or just coming off. The thing is, when I wear red lips, they last all day, even through eating and drinking. They don't bleed, fade, or wear off.

In this post you'll get my secret to super long-lasting red lips as well as a short tutorial.

First, very lightly apply a face powder over your lips. This will create a barrier between your skin and the products, much like a lip primer. I actually never use a lip primer though. Powder works perfectly for me and I use it on a daily basis.) Next, line your lips with a lipliner like Revlon Colorstay's. Using a long-wearing lipliner isn't necessary but it does slightly prolong the staying power a bit more. Brands like MAC work good as well.

Using the same liner, fill your lips. This will begin the process of building the color.

With your choice of red lipstick (preferably a matte), go over your lined and filled lips. I'm using MAC Russian Red lipstick. Matte lipsticks tend to have a longer overall staying power than other finishes that may be too creamy.

Next, blot your lips on a tissue. This removes a bit of the product but also aids in creating a "stain" on the lips. Repeat the lipstick and blotting steps one final time (for a total of 2) to finish building the color.

Here you can see how the color is bold but it it appears to be in place after the blotting steps.

Last, using the long-wearing lipliner again, retouch and perfect the edges of your lips.

The final look:

Basically, with the combination of the powder, lipliner, matte red lipstick, and blotting you'll build upon your color and end up with perfect red lips that last throughout the day!

Great tips. I shy away from red or darker lipsticks in fear of them smudging and ending up looking a mess, definatly going to try out your tips!
